How to Choose a Notebook for Daily Writing

Fast Pick Mart Editorial July 29, 2026
How to Choose a Notebook for Daily Writing

A notebook only works if it matches how you write. Start with size: pocket (A6) for lists on the go, A5 for daily journaling, and B5 or larger for long drafts at a desk.

Paper Weight

Around 80???90 gsm is fine for ballpoint and gel pens. If you use fountain pens, look for 100 gsm or higher to reduce show-through. Brands such as Leuchtturm1917 and Rhodia publish gsm ratings clearly on the packaging.

Ruling

Ruled pages guide prose. Dot grid supports bullet lists and sketches. Blank pages suit drawing. Try one format for a month before buying a stack of the same.

Binding

Sewn hardcovers open flatter and last longer. Soft covers and staple-bound memo books are lighter for travel. Elastic closures and rear pockets help if you carry loose cards.
